Overview of the Report: Information Technology Human Resources of the 2010s and 2020...
According to statistics, the report took 2010 as a benchmark and found that the recruitment demand of the IT industry has quadrupled after a decade. In which, 7 fields in IT industry that has had the highest recruitment demand are: Software development; Technical assistance; Project/Product Management; User experience (UX) and Interface (UI); QA/QC; Data Science.
According to statistics, in the period from 2010 to early 2020, the recruitment demand of the Software Development segment always accounts for more than 50% and has the largest impact on the recruitment demand of the whole IT industry. When comparing the first half of the decade and the second half, the recruitment demand for this segment nearly doubled.
In this segment, the recruiting needs are mainly about engineers with Software, Mobile, Web, ERP (Enterprise resource planning software) with common programming language skills such as JAVA, PHP, .NET. It can be indicated that the trend of software development in Vietnam in the last decade has been the “outsourcing” services, especially Web App and Mobile App.
Over the past decade, in terms of skills, Javascript Developer skills are still consistent with the trend of software development in Vietnam, this skill group has the strongest growth in recruitment demand, up to 63.3% compared to 2010. Followed by iOS Developer that grew by 29.8%; Android Developer that increased to 26.8%.
The highest average salary posted has changed year by year, showing the change of IT trends in Vietnam in the last decade. Notably, from 2011 to 2012, this was the period of Mobile App development, leading to the highest average salary of the duo: Embedded Developer with a salary of USD 3,750 and Hardware Engineer with a salary of USD 3,500.
The period of 2013-2014 marked the rise of the “Data-driven” era when all businesses were aiming to take advantage of big data, leading to high salaries for two positions as Data Scientist with a salary of USD 3,531, and Python Developer with a salary of USD 2,900.
The second half of the decade, from 2015 – 2019, continues to be the development of Data Science as this technology plays an increasingly important role for businesses. This is reflected in the salary posted for the position of Business Intelligence (referred to as BI) with a salary of USD 1,532 in 2015. High Technology Trends (high-tech) also began to enter Vietnam at this time and also reflected through the high salary paid for positions such as IoT Developer with a salary of USD 1,800; Artificial Intelligence developer with a salary of USD 1,958; Blockchain Developer is proposed salary of USD 2,033; Cloud Developer with a salary of USD 2,006, and Computer vision developer with a salary of USD 2,382.
In terms of job roles, Project/Product Management is the position that the employer offers the highest salary of USD 1,775, next is Software Development with an average salary of USD 1,527. The Data Science team came in third with a salary of USD 1,356.
Top 3 fields with the highest salary are: Fintech with an average salary of USD 1,115; High technology (IoT; AI; Blockchain, …) has an average salary of USD 1,055; E-Commerce with a salary of USD 895.
When comparing the survey results about the desired salary of IT personnel and the salary that the employers are offering, there is a difference in the actual salary and the desired salary of IT staff.
Accordingly, the “Internship and Entry Level” level expects a salary of about USD 200 higher than the actual one. The “Experienced” group is receiving a salary lower than expected of USD 300. The “Leader” group has a difference between the actual and expected of USD 400. The difference for the “Management” group is USD 600 and for the “Director” group is nearly USD 1,300.
IT human resources are only somewhat satisfied with the most important benefits
In general, IT human resources are “well taken care of” by enterprises when they fully offer the most important benefits, including Social Insurance, Paid leave, Periodic health checks, Allowances, Personal Laptop, and Travel.
However, IT candidates only show the level of somewhat satisfaction when asked about the “Satisfaction level” with the benefits and the work environment. According to that, only 40% said they were satisfied at different levels, nearly 50% said that they felt “Normal”, the rest were “Not satisfied” at different levels.
In addition to the aforementioned basic benefits, IT personnel said the “flexible working time” is an important but little-used benefit.
Ranking higher than factors related to direct managers, colleagues or company culture, the Top 3 factors that make IT industry employees top concerns when changing jobs are related to benefits. Accordingly, 89% said they were interested in “Higher salary”, 67% chose “Promotion Opportunity” and 66% chose “Better benefits”. The factor “Line manager and colleagues” is 56% of candidates selected and “Company culture” is selected by 53% of candidates.
